For My yoke is easy and My burden is light. – Matthew 11:30
The world in which we live is stressful, and this may be due to the fact that there’s never enough time to do all that we wish we could do. Maybe we work two jobs, have a family, girlfriend or fiance, reading, classes, and freetime(if that exists). This is much of the way of the world, but it happens to those in the church as well. "I thought our burden is supposed to be light?"
So we try and make it on our own, and then get burned out and stressed. So we seek help from other sources…CAFFIENE….to help us make it. But there is no ammount of caffiene, or no perfect number of Diet Cokes or Diet Mt. Dews that will make our burden light. This frustrates us, so we work all the harder, until we almost explode, almost reaching the point of cursing God saying, "Our burden is supposed to be light!"
But it is dear Christian. Our Baptisms make the burden light. Through our Baptism, our sins(burden) are(is) taken off of us and placed on Christ, and he then gives it (the burden) back. But it is a burden of empty threats and curses form sin, death, and the devil. The burden which Christ gives us is empty of burden but full of gift. His burden is the Gospel. So, no matter what is added to our schedule the burden of sin has been removed from it, and it is now a burden of Gospel/gift. We were first deluged with this Gospel in Baptism, now -each Lord’s day – it is gushed on us in His Body and Blood, and each time our Pastor says, "In the stead and by the command of my Lord Jesus Christ, I forgive you all your sins…" we are once again burdened with the Gospel; but this burden saves us.
