Jesus the Reason for the Season?

I know it’s a little late, but I didn’t have Internet access the whole time; therefore, it’s going to be late….  Plus, a “late” gift is still a gift.

This statement puzzled me.  While I will not dispute that Christ has a major role in Christmas, because we are celebrating his coming to save us.  But I move that we are the reason for the season!

And this is not some anthropocentric (man centered) view of things.  This is the heart of the Gospel.  God in his mercy deemed that the proper time to make us a new creation was about 2000 years ago in Bethlehem.

Angels told of its glory, “Peace on earth and goodwill toward men!”  Lowly shepherds were told that the promise had come.  Wise men came from the east, and now we know that this Messiah came for all….even us gentiles.

He was the one who suffered, for us!  He came and fulfilled the law in our place.  He bled 8 days later, and he became separated from God, he who was God, and then God died – all for us!  While now we laud and magnify him during Christmastide, and while on the first Christmas he was a focus; us and our redemption were the main focus!  Blessed be the morning star who has enlightened us who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death!
