Though the lowliest form shall veil Thee
At the font in water clear,
There our faith shall still perceive Thee
As we gather ‘round in fear
For with Thee there is forgiveness
That shall cover ev’ry sin –
Even children in their meekness
Are become true heirs of heav’n.
Life-bestowing Word from heaven,
Word of whom the prophets spake,
Thou art come our souls to quicken
And from us our sins to take.
Through our pastor, by Thee given,
Unto us Thou dost proclaim,
“Now thy sins are all forgiven
In the Triune’s holy name.”
Paschal Lamb, Thy work ‘twas over
Once for all when Thou wast slain.
Now with grace and heav’nly succor
Thou art here with us again.
In the bread Thy flesh is given,
In the wine Thy precious blood;
By these means we are forgiven
And receive our heav’nly food.
That our faith be firmly buildéd,
And, indeed, might be obtained
Christ an office thus hath founded,
And by Him ‘tis still maintained
That the Gospel might be preachéd,
By His pastors, t’us His saints;
That we too be rightly aided
By these blesséd Sacraments.
