I. The Seed and Heir Is Come

Eve’s long-promised Seed has come,
David’s Sire, in Bethlehem.
He’s their son and yet their LORD,
God’s true Son, th’eternal Word:
Alleluia!

Mercy, peace, and grace are seen
In the names that He was giv’n:
Jesus, King, Immanuel!
Let the earth with praises swell:
Alleluia!

Long awaited, long foretold
By the Patriarchs of old,
Seen by prophets, sung by kings
Was the kingdom that He brings:
Alleluia!

“Israel’s Scepter, Jacob’s Star
Shall arise to rule afar
Soon shall David’s throne be filled
As the LORD of hosts has willed.”
Alleluia!

II. David the Type

David, best of Israel’s kings;
Jesus, e’er the King of kings—
Both were born in House of Bread,
Both would rescue from great dread:
Alleluia!

Both bestowed peace, strength, and life
Not with shield or sword or knife.
One’s the type God did prepare
T’show our one true King, His Heir:
Alleluia!

Bread-bestowing David stood
There, on Israel’s side, for good.
Armor-clad, the giant said
That he’d kill the unarmed lad:
Alleluia!

Sling was used, one stone from five,
Making Israel free, alive.
Wounded, struck upon the head;
Now, the mighty foe is dead!
Alleluia!

III. Christ the Antitype

Jesus Christ, our King, was led
With a thorn-encircled head
To His throne, His mercy seat.
There they pierced His hands, His feet:
Alleluia!

Christ, the Prince of Life, then died;
Then, with spear, they pierced His side;
Then, at once, the water flowed,
Streaming forth e’en with His blood:
Alleluia!

Five the wounds our Savior bore;
Feet and hands and side did pour
Blood which Satan fears with dread—
Crushed is now the serpent’s head!
Alleluia!

Christ was laid within the tomb.
Three days hence, He’d burst that room,
Bounding forth, restored to life,
He has conquered in the strife:
Alleluia!

IV. Praise for Christ, our Kingly Bread of Life

Hear, O Christ, our LORD, our King,
All the praises that we bring.
May they be an off’ring sweet
And with love and faith replete:
Alleluia!

You, we praise, O Christ, our Head,
For You nourish us with bread
And with wine—our highest our good:
Your true body and Your blood!
Alleluia!

In this way You with us dwell,
Bread of Life, Immanuel.
Thus, O LORD, O King of hosts,
All creation in You boasts:
Alleluia!

You’re the very King of Bread,
Who has freed us from our dread.
Thus we praise You, King of kings,
E’er with Patriarchs and kings.
Alleluia!

V. Eternal Praise Is Given to the Greater David

Praise is ever giv’n to You,
Christ, our King, all ages through;
For You are the Holy One
David’s LORD and yet His son:
Alleluia!

David then shall bow with us,
Patriarchs shall sing with us,
Prophets and Apostles too;
All shall raise a hymn to You:
Alleluia!

Jesus Christ, O Seed and Heir,
Hear us where You now prepare
Banquet halls for us to feast,
From the greatest to the least:
Alleluia!

Glory, honor, laud and praise,
Riches, pow’r, and strength always
Shall be Yours, and God with You,
With the Holy Spirit too.
Alleluia!
