Lord, make us to be true and chaste;
Keep us that we do naught debased;
Preserve us in Your purity,
That we shine with true charity.

You censure with unwav’ring force
All lust, adult’ry, and divorce,
But you enjoin one man, one wife
Unto a life-long married life.

You also preach within Your Word:
The Church is Bride, the Groom our Lord,
Whose flesh and blood forgive our sin,
Make pure, give life and strength within.

Cause men to be pure grooms prepared,
And maidens, too, brides pure and fair,
That by their lusts they be not riled,
That marriage beds be undefiled.

Grant those You’ve chosen from our race,
Your Spirit’s special strength and grace,
That holy singleness and pure
Lifelong in body, heart endure.

Grant hearts to be in You serene,
And not aflame with lust obscene;
Lord, keep in check the roving eye,
So, too, the weak day-dreaming mind.

Grant shield of faith to snuff each dart
That Satan sends into our heart,
Lest worldly lust—false love—entice
And we sin ’gainst our Savior, Christ.

O Father, this we ask be done
Through Jesus Christ, Your only Son,
Whom with the Spirit we adore
Forever and forever more. Amen.
